One Camera, Two Views: EZVIZ HB90 Dual 3K

Two camera views in one unit

The HB90 Dual combines two cameras in the same outdoor unit. The upper camera provides a wider view suited to areas such as a driveway, front yard or backyard. The lower camera has a tighter view and a larger range of movement.

When the wide camera detects a person moving through the scene, the lower camera can rotate and track them. This keeps the wider context visible while providing a closer view of the activity. Both cameras record at 3K resolution, so the closer view is not dependent on digitally enlarging the wide image.

AOV and battery operation

EZVIZ's Always On Video mode is designed to make the camera feel more continuously aware than a battery camera that sleeps until an event occurs. When there is no activity, the camera can use capture intervals to monitor the scene while managing power. When activity is detected, it becomes more active and records the event.

AOV is not the same as a hardwired CCTV camera recording full-rate video every second. More aggressive AOV settings use more power, particularly overnight. During testing, the battery did not drop during a busy day using AOV, while overnight performance depended on how much activity occurred in the street.

Solar installation and placement

Each HB90 has a 10,400 mAh battery and the kit includes an 8W solar panel. The panel can be detached from the camera and positioned separately using its long cable, allowing it to be placed where it can receive more sunlight.

Placement remains important. The camera needs a suitable viewing angle, a strong enough 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection and a useful location for the solar panel. The solar panel is particularly important to the value of using a battery-powered camera with AOV, as overnight battery use depends on the activity level.

Storage and app features

The Australian HB90 kit includes a 16 GB microSD card and supports local storage of up to 512 GB. Footage can be overwritten as part of ongoing local recording, and a cloud storage option is available but not required for local recording and review.

The app provides both camera views, manual movement, tracking, two-way audio, detection-area customisation, sirens and lights that can flash as a deterrent. In the wide-angle view, tapping an area of the screen can direct the lower camera towards that location.

The app also uses human and vehicle-shaped detection. During testing, this was described as distinguishing people from movement such as a tree branch. The 2.4 GHz-only Wi-Fi connection can mean the live feed takes longer to load at times, particularly alongside the camera's image quality.

Image quality and night vision

The wide camera provides a sharp overview, while the tighter camera adds more context and detail for subjects being followed. The system offers infrared black-and-white night vision or colour night vision using the built-in spotlight.

EZVIZ rates the night vision range at up to 35 metres, although the maximum range is not necessarily the same as the useful identification range. Video is recorded at 15 frames per second, rather than the higher frame rates associated with phone video.
