Interior mats and storage protection

The Tesla Model Y’s standard fabric floor mats are described as difficult to clean, making all-weather rubbery or plastic-style mats one of the most useful upgrades. The set shown covers the front and rear footwells. Pat paid $96 for his set, although that particular product was no longer available at the time of recording, so a similar replacement may be required.

A front mat for the front storage area cost $15 and is intended to make dirt and mess easier to remove. A boot mat serves a similar purpose in the rear luggage area. The mat shown cost $60 and was described as useful for dogs, dirty items and other loads, although Pat indicated he might replace it later.

Small inserts for the front and rear door storage areas provide an organiser and removable protection against spills, dirt and general debris. They can be taken out for cleaning. The video states that these cost about $50, depending on the supplier. Rear storage bins with covers add compartments beneath the boot floor, while the covers can create a flatter surface. They cost $75, although Pat questioned whether that price represented good value based on his experience.

Protecting the seats and armrest

A rear seat cover cost $40 and was originally designed as a pet cover. It protects the rear seats from dogs, children and other mess, while leaving access to the lower child-seat clips. This type of cover is not specific to Tesla and may be useful in other vehicles as well.

An armrest cover was added to protect the armrest’s vegan leather surface from wear. It has a similar appearance to the original material and cost $50. The cover also provides a layer of protection when children climb over the armrest.

Cup holders and exterior appearance

A cup holder insert cost $15 and is intended to make the holder easier to use and clean. The main caveat is that inserts reduce the available cup-holder size, so some larger cups may no longer fit.

The standard silver wheel covers were replaced with black covers to suit the white and black exterior of the Model Y shown in the video. These cost $200 and took approximately 15 minutes to replace across all four wheels. The change is cosmetic rather than a replacement of the complete wheels, with many designs available depending on personal preference.

Black covers for the Tesla badges cost $15 and were used to complete the black and white appearance. Mud flaps cost approximately $45 and are intended to help reduce stone chips along the vehicle’s sides. They were described as quick and easy to install, with similar options available from different brands.

The screen protector Pat considers most important

The tempered glass screen protector is presented as the most important item on the list. The Model Y’s large display protrudes from the dashboard, leaving it exposed to accidental knocks when people enter or exit the vehicle or when long objects are carried inside.

The protector cost approximately $50 and is installed by following the supplied instructions. In addition to adding a protective layer, its matte finish can reduce glare and make the map and other screen controls easier to see. The video notes that replacing the screen could cost around $1,500, although Pat was uncertain whether that figure was in Australian or US dollars and whether insurance would cover the damage.
