Hardware and setup

The Creality K2 Combo is an enclosed CoreXY printer with a 260 x 260 x 260 mm build volume. Its hardware includes a 300°C maximum all-metal hotend, a 100°C heated bed and dual Z-axis rails. Servo motors help keep operation quiet, with the printer described as humming rather than screaming during use.

The CFS sits on top of the printer, although it can be moved away using its cable. It holds four spools and can be expanded to four CFS units for 16-colour printing. The package includes the essential tools, a spare nozzle, cutters, grease and a sample RFID filament spool. Assembly took about 15 minutes, involving the removal of transport screws, mounting the touchscreen and connecting the cables and PTFE tubes.

The built-in camera is suitable for monitoring prints and creating time-lapses. Its AI monitoring can also detect spaghetti, although the camera itself is not described as cinema quality.

Software and connectivity

The Creality Cloud mobile app and web interface provide a feature-rich setup, but the testing experience was less straightforward than expected. Sending files from a computer through the cloud took an excessive amount of time.

Connecting Creality Print directly to the printer also caused problems. Automatic discovery did not work when the computer and printer were on different Wi-Fi frequencies, even though they were on the same local network. Manually entering the printer’s IP address eventually worked. Local network printing was then faster and more reliable than using the cloud.

The review recommends updating the firmware immediately. Earlier slicer versions reportedly had issues calculating flushes, while newer versions improved the result.

Speed and multi-colour trade-offs

Creality claims a maximum speed of 600 mm/s. In practical testing, around 300–400 mm/s was used when clean results were the priority. At those speeds, the K2 remained quick for single-colour printing and produced sharp edges, clean layers and no obvious ringing in the tested models.

Multi-colour printing changes the calculation. Each colour swap requires the printer to stop, cut and retract the filament, load the next colour, purge the previous plastic and wipe the nozzle. A single change took between 90 and 200 seconds. A model that would normally take about 10 hours in one colour took 96 hours with approximately 400 filament changes per hour handled by the CFS.

The CFS makes colour selection and loading largely automatic, but more spools also mean more potential failure points, including snapped filament, runout and clogs. It can still be used for convenient single-colour jobs when multiple colours are already loaded.

TechManPat’s conclusion

In my view, the Creality K2 CFS Combo is a highly capable and quiet printer that makes multi-colour printing considerably more accessible. I found the software and purge settings needed attention, and the time penalty for frequent colour changes is significant. However, the mechanical performance, print quality and overall package make it very difficult for me to recommend another multi-colour option instead at this price level.
