Price and appearance

The BattleBull Moda Cloud is priced at about $500 Australian. That is around twice the price of the original BattleBull chair tested six years earlier, but the Moda Cloud is positioned as a more refined, premium-looking model.

Its fabric-covered design is intended to work in a home or office. The cream finish gives it a soft, understated appearance, although it requires care. During assembly, the chair picked up dirt immediately, and the light colour is likely to show marks from pets, children or everyday use. The dirt came off easily with a generic cleaning spray. Sage or black may be more practical colour choices.

Assembly and construction

Assembly took about 15 minutes. The screw alignment and overall fit have been refined compared with the earlier chair, making the process straightforward.

The chair uses thick, powder-coated metal that feels solid once assembled. The armrests also feel robust and can be adjusted in multiple directions, including up and down, forwards and backwards, and from side to side.

The seat reclines to 155 degrees, which allows it to be used for leaning back while watching a movie. The chair includes a magnetic headrest, replacing the strap-style attachment found on many older chairs. A small batch reportedly had magnet positioning issues, and BattleBull confirmed that stronger magnets are being used in subsequent units.

Comfort and ergonomics

The Moda Cloud uses soft material across the cushions, backrest and seat. It feels smooth rather than abrasive and has a plush quality that suits the Cloud name. The seat also provides comfortable width for someone who needs more room across the thighs.

The chair includes a lumbar cushion and an adjustable resistance mechanism. The lumbar cushion itself was not used during the review; instead, increasing the resistance provided a comfortable sitting position. The adjustable armrests add further flexibility for desk work or gaming.

The rubber surfaces on the armrests provide a comfortable place for the elbows, but they are a potential durability concern. Previous chairs used by the reviewer developed rips or cuts in these areas, particularly when the armrests rubbed against a desk while pulling the chair in. The material, stitching, cushioning and foam have otherwise held up well over several years across the chairs tested.

Wheels and long-term considerations

The standard chair includes dual-sided plastic wheels. Optional rubber wheels are available separately, starting at about $40 for non-light-up versions, with RGB and standard LED versions costing more. These rubber wheels are intended to glide more easily across hardwood floors and carpet.

After approximately a week and a half of use, the cream chair remained in reasonable condition apart from the early dirt picked up during assembly. Longer-term attention should be paid to the rubber armrest surfaces, as these have been the main area of concern in previous use.

Value compared with alternatives

At $500 Australian, the Moda Cloud is an expensive chair, but it sits below premium alternatives described as costing $600, $700 or $800. Its construction, comfort and fabric quality place it in a more premium category than less expensive office chairs tested by the reviewer.

For people working from home or spending long periods gaming, the combination of comfort, adjustability and solid construction may make the price easier to justify. However, the cream colour and the possible long-term wear of the rubber armrests should be considered before buying.
